Candidate Forums / Pros & Cons Presentations

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government.  To fulfill its mission of informing the electorate, two kinds of events are scheduled before each election.

Candidate Forums

All candidates for a contested office are invited to participate in a forum moderated and timed by members of the League of Women Voters.  Written questions are collected from the audience.  Each candidate is given equal time to respond.  The League does not endorse any candidates and is careful to maintain an absolutely nonpartisan position.

Pros & Cans Presentation

These are sponsored by interested groups to help educate voters about important issues on the ballot for the November election.  Some of the propositions are State Constitutional Amendments with long-term consequences.

Experienced League members research reliable sources of information about a proposition, and then present the arguments on both sides of the issue.  The purpose is not to advocate for a position but to give voters as much accurate information as possible and resources so they may explore further those areas which interest them.

Presentations take between 1 & 2 hours.  They can be held at a time appropriate to the sponsoring group.  The Sponsor is provided a list of the League members and the issue(s) they are presenting well before the meeting.
