VOTER SERVICE & EDUCATION Three activities of the Voter Service Committee are the tools through which we work to empower citizens to shape better communities worldwide at the grass roots level. Voter Registration: https://ovr.ss.ca.gov/votereg/OnlineVoterReg You must be registered to vote 15 days before an election in order to vote in that election.
Pros/Cons: Voter Service Committee members select those ballot measures and propositions which are of greatest importance and study them in-depth with a variety of resources. A panel then presents the arguments both for and against the propositions to interested groups who request them. This unbiased Pros and Cons presentation is also given at a League meeting to which the general public is invited. Any group desiring to arrange one of these highly effective and enlightening presentations may contact the League. Forums and Election Assistance: All candidates running for public office are invited to participate in a forum conducted according to the strict protocols of the League of Women Voters. This is done to insure the nonpartisan nature of the forum, giving everyone equal opportunity to made statements, respond to others and answer questions submitted by the audience. Local media representatives are invited and may participate in questioning the candidates as well. This is one of the best ways we know to learn about the people who will be shaping the community in which we live. Voter Service Committee members serve as timers, moderators, hostesses, question card distributors and collectors at these functions. |
